Gentiva Home Health recently hosted an employee food drive to benefit the Food Pantry at Christ Central Church in Rainbow City.

Gentiva Home Health donated the equivalent of 8,500 pounds of food in food and money.

Gentiva Home Health holds food drives with its employees every August at all its locations across the nation. The Rainbow City Gentiva Home Health and Hospice picks a different charity to donate to each year.

The Food Pantry at Christ Central Church provides food for 150 families each month, resulting in 1,035 individuals fed at least once a month through the services the pantry provides. The church mostly serves Etowah County residents, but doesn’t turn away residents from Calhoun County or Steele “as long as they are in need,” said food pantry director Lexie Hembree.

The donated food will supplement the 4000 pounds of food given away each month. The Food Pantry attempts to provide seven meals that include meat, bread and even fresh produce.

The Food Pantry receives food from the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, including the produce, which is shared with other charities in the Etowah County area.

The Food Pantry is run through the volunteer work of Christ Central Church members.

The Food Pantry distributes food on the third Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m.

The Food Pantry is part of the church’s mission to “advance a Christ-centered community through loving relationships” The church members aim to know Jesus as savior, grow as disciples and to go out in service.
