Glencoe Fellas Rout Sardis by 21 points

The Glencoe Yellow Jackets used hot shooting and aggressive defense to defeat the Sardis Lions, 56-35, December 5 at Glencoe.

“Everyone gave maximum effort, and they just played Glencoe basketball,” said coach Ryan Barkley.

Austin Hancock led the Jackets with 15 points, while C.J. Feemster led the Lions with 13 points.

Feemster scored Sardis’ first points with 7:32 remaining in the opening quarter. Christopher Tinker scored the Jackets first points with 6:31 in the period.

Devonta Toles and Anthony Morris were offensive sparks for the Jackets – Toles from the post and Morris from deep draining two straight 3-pointers extending the Jackets lead to 17-8 at the end of the frame.

Tinker started the second quarter with a steal and score. Led by Kailon Roberson, the Lions went on a 7-0 run. Hancock ended the run with a trey with 1:37 before the half. A late score from Morris pushed the lead to 31-18 at halftime.

The third quarter started fast for the Lions, as Toby Pee scored with 7:45 in the frame. The Jackets with an 8-0 run, that included a fast break dunk by Toles. Feemster ended the run with 3:01 left in the quarter.

Hancock ended the quarter drilling a pair of 3-point shots, the first at 1:31 and the second with five seconds left extending the Glencoe lead to 45-26 at the end of the third.

The final quarter started with Austin Hancock shooting a three pointer with 6:08 remaining in the game. The Lions scored their final seven points with under three minutes to end the game.

Both teams did well from the free throw line as Sardis went 17 for 25 (68 percent), while Glencoe fared 7 for 14 (50 percent).

“We played hard, but we gave up too many rebounds, Sardis head coach Tracy Cheek said. “We are getting better with each game, but the offensive rebounds that Glencoe had just made the game out

of control.”

Glencoe is ranked fifth in Class 3A in this week’s polls and sport a 5-2 record.
