Glencoe wins Yellow Jacket Invitational team, individual titles

Glencoe High took first place in both the team and individual competition in the 15-team Yellow Jacket Invitational girls high school golf tournament on Thursday (Mar. 13) at Silver Lakes in Glencoe.

The Lady Yellow Jackets finished with an overall score of 280. Out of a 72-player field, Glencoe’s Hope Bishop was the low-medalist with an 81 score, eight strokes ahead of White Plains’ Morgan Prickett. 

Also for Glencoe, Madison Cole tied for seventh place with a 97 score, followed by Madison Autwell at 102 and Lauren Cole at 115. 

“It was tough a tough day and the wind was a factor,” said GHS girls gold coach Jason Pierce. “I’m proud of the girls.”

Westbrook Christian came in third at 303. Sydney Fairchild finished with a 99 score for the Lady Warriors, followed by Hope Cone with 101, Na-talie Echeverri with 103 and Grace Guyton at 117. 

Southside posted a 366 score. Leading the Lady Panthers was Ashley McCormick with 103, followed by Gabrielle Metz with 127, Jordan Reavis with 136 and Cassie Davis with 153. Kaylee Howell also participated.

In local individual play, Coosa Christian’s Savannah Hughes shot a 116 score, followed by Hokes Bluff’s Amber Bigelow and Tayler Bollock with 126 and 145, respectively.
