Volunteers with Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity gathered for the dedication of House # 41 on Feb. 14, but it was not the numbers that mattered most to those gathered at the Adams Circle residence in East Gadsden.

The celebration was in seeing Takeyia Lipscomb and her two children, Milan and Miles, showing visitors around their new home, and in blessing their home with prayer as Lipscomb was presented with keys to the home and a Bible.

“I want to thank you all for what you’ve done,” Lipscomb said. She said it had been a challenge, going to school, working and being single mom to two children and working on the new house.

“The only thing is, I wish my Mom was here to see this.”

Lipscomb said in doing the work needed on her new home she learned many new things. She said she may not be able to use a drill well, but she knows who to call if she needs help with it.

Habitat Vice President/Secretary Suzanne Scharfenberg said in working with Lipscomb, she found a partner she would like to “Xerox.” When families qualify for partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, they agree to put in labor not only on the construction of their own home, but in helping with the construction of homes for others.

Scharfenberg said she knows Lipscomb is going to be one of those partners who follows through on her commitments.

Habitat for Humanity has constructed houses in several areas of Gadsden. On Adams Circle, all the houses are Habitat constructions, and the organization plans to break ground soon on the construction of its 42nd house. It will be located on Adams Circle also.

A couple visiting during the dedication of the Lipscomb house have just “gotten in the pipeline” for partnering with Habitat for a new home.

Mary Alvey and Habitat sponsored the Lipscomb family in the construction of their house.
