The 2016 Northeast Alabama Heart Walk is hosting a Community Team Kickoff on June 23 at Back Forty Beer Company from 4 to 6 p.m.

The American Heart Association is inviting community members who are passionate about heart health and giving back to join the association to raise support for the Heart Walk that will be held on September 24 later this year on the 3rd block of Broad Street.

The Community Kickoff event will offer heart healthy information, a demonstration of hands-only CPR and giveaways of gift certificates from downtown Gadsden merchants.

“Everyone is invited if they are interested in the walk or in seeing what we do in the community,” Heidi Darbo, the American Heart Association Event Specialist.

The American Heart Association hopes to raise $150,000 this year to improve the health of Americans by reducing death by cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Local sponsors include Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Riverview Regional Medical Center and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Gadsden.
