Former State Representative Jeff McLaughlin, D-Guntersville, recently announced that he is seeking election again to the Alabama House of Representative in District 27. McLaughlin represented District 27 from 2001-2010. The district includes most of Marshall County and small portions of Blount and DeKalb Counties.
“After the past three years, I decided to run for the state legislature again because it’s hard for me to sit by and watch while some bad things have happened, and good things which ought to be happening just haven’t been,” said McLaughlin.
Among the issues McLaughlin named were education, extreme partisan politics that gets in the way of local needs and finding solutions to the problems facing our state, improving our infrastructure and protecting TVA resources, and the need to bring honesty and integrity back to elected office.
Rep. Craig Ford, a Democrat from Gadsden and the House Minority Party leader, said no one would do a better job representing the people of Marshall County than McLaughlin.
“I had the honor and privilege to serve with Jeff for 10 years in the state legislature. Jeff always put the people back home first and never gave in to partisan politics or special interests. Jeff will be your representative in Montgomery, and not Montgomery’s representative to you.”
McLaughlin said he is a conservative who will stand up for what is right and not give in to extreme partisan politics.
“I’ve been to Montgomery and know the games that are played down there and I know how to stay out of those games and get things done to help improve life in this district and in this state.”
McLaughlin is a graduate of Guntersville High School, Birmingham-Southern, and Harvard Law School. He owns a law practice in Guntersville and is a former high school history, government and biology teacher. He and his wife, Stacy have three children: Frank, William and Mary Crawford.
