Ninth-ranked Gadsden City held No. 7 Lee-Huntsville’s uptempo offense in check and survived early and late surges from the Lady Generals to pull off a 51-45 road win in a Class 6A sub-regional girls basketball game on Friday (Feb. 14) in Huntsville.
Gadsden City plays No. 3 Shades Valley at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 18) in the Northeast Regional Tournament at Jacksonville State University.
“They’ve got such good such good athletes,” said Gadsden City head coach Jeremy Brooks. “We didn’t control them; we just managed the chaos and controlled their runs.”
After falling behind early, the Lady Titans (20-4) ended the first quarter on a 12-2 run to take the lead at 14-12. By halftime, Gadsden City had a 29-27 advantage and used an 8-0 run to end the third quarter with an eight-point lead.
The Lady Generals (22-9) had a chance to tie with 12.9 seconds left in the game before their last shot came up short.
Daija Williams led GCHS with 17 points, followed by Taylor Tucker with 14 points and Brooke Burns with 10.
Salina Virolo paced Lee with 12 points.
