Gadsden State Community College has its fourth president in just over a year’s time.

Martha Lavender has been named interim president at the school, a little more than two months after Helen McAlpine was appointed president of GSCC. Alabama Community College System Chancellor Mark Heinrich announced that McAlpine would return to her previous post as president of Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville.

Lavender began her nursing career as a graduate of Gadsden State Community College. She later received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University, and her master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2011, she retired as the Dean of Health Sciences at Gadsden State Community College.
