Several rising seniors and two local coaches were recently selected to participate in the AHSAA North/South All-Star Games in July in Montgomery.
Sardis High’s Jayden Johnson made the North roster for the girls tennis competition, while Gadsden City’s Paula Reynolds was selected as co-coach for the North boys team. Johnson helped the 2023 Lady Lions win the sectional title and finish fourth at the Class 4A/5A state tournament, during which she and teammate Reagan Handley came in second place in No. 3 doubles.
Etowah’s Jameson Scissom, who helped the 2024 Blue Devils go 20-14 and make it to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs, will compete for the North baseball team. Gadsden City’s Scott Brackett is a co-coach for the North team.
Southside High’s Jalyn Allen, Kinsey Carter and Camren Thompson will compete in softball, girls soccer and boys soccer, respectively. Allen was the Lady Panthers’ ace on the mound as the team went 29-12-1 and placed third in the Class 5A North Regional Tournament. Carter (pictured above) helped Southside reach the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Thompson scored 52 goals as the Panthers were ranked No. 1 in 5A for most of the regular season and advanced to the state semifinals.
