Local basketball roundup: Hokes Bluff, Westbrook, Glencoe, Southside post wins

Titus Jones scored a game-high 24 points while adding three assists and three rebounds in Westbrook Christian’s 51-46 victory over Etowah on Thursday, Nov. 21 in Attalla. Also for the Warriors (2-1), Brady Carden had seven points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals; Wil Chadwick scored six points; Beckham Hammontree contributed three points, five rebounds and two assists; and Bo Kilgo chipped in two points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Anthony Gooch shot 55 percent (5-for-9) from the three-point line on the way to a game-high 19 points in Hokes Bluff’s 68-52 win over Sand Rock on Thursday, Nov. 21 at HBHS. Gooch also contributed seven rebounds and three steals. Anderson Morgan and Bryce Whitaker each scored 13 points for the Eagles, with Morgan coming up with three steals and Whitaker grabbing five rebounds. Ronan McFadden finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Noah Johnson chipped in nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Four players scored in double figures in Hokes Bluff’s 77-49 victory over Sardis on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at HBHS. Bryce Whitaker finished with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. He also had three assists, two deflections and two steals. Logan Carr contributed 16 points, three deflections, two assist and two steals. Anderson Morgan added 11 points along with five assists, five deflections and two steals. Anthony Gooch chipped in 10 points and five rebounds, while Ronan McFadden had six points and four boards. Noah Johnson scored for points while collecting six deflections, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Cade Holcomb paced the Lions with 11 points, followed by Jordan Garrett with 10.

Eleven players scored for Glencoe in the Yellow Jackets’ 93-36 victory over Gaylesville on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Grant Smith paced Glencoe with 19 points, followed by Jalen Hunter with 13; Wade Segrest with 11; Davis Honeycutt, Garrett Morgan Levi Lassetter and Jace White with nine each; and Jaden Patton with seven.

Ashville came up short against Tuscaloosa County, 67-55, on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at AHS. J.B. Potter paced the Bulldogs with 19 points, followed by Nate Huckbay with 12 and Parker Smith with 10. Potter grabbed six rebounds, while Huckbay and Smith both pulled down five. Jrey Colley came up with five steals.

Two players posted a double-double in Southside 60-46 win over Douglas on Monday, Nov. 18 at Douglas. Mason Stephens finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers, while Cayden Reason contributed 12 points and 12 boards. Drew Clark added 12 points and six rebounds.

Levi Lassetter score a game-high 19 points and Grant Smith added 10 in Glencoe’s 69-21 victory over West End on Friday, Nov. 15. Garrett Morgan and Jalen Hunter each chipped in seven points for the Yellow Jackets, followed by Wade Segrest with six and Aiden Johnson with five. Karsen Patterson scored six points for the Patriots, while David Dodge contributed five.

Hokes Bluff opened the season with a 79-22 win over Saks on Friday, Nov. 15. For the Eagles, Noah Johnson shot 80 percent (4-for-5) from the three-point line on the way to a team high 20 points. He also had five assists and four steals. Logan Carr scored 15 points, while Bryce Whitaker contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. Ronan McFadden added 10 points, while Anderson Morgan finished with 10 assists, four rebounds, four deflections and two steals.

Ashville fell to Plainview, 79-44, on Friday, Nov. 15 in Rainsville. J.B. Potter paced the Bulldogs with 10 points, followed by Nate Huckbay with nine, Parker Smith with eight and Dylan Palmer with seven. Potter grabbed nine rebounds, while Smith cleared four.

Girls
Mollie Brock scored 14 points and Delaney Lee added 11 in Sardis’ 64-36 win over Hokes Bluff on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at HBHS. The Lady Lions led 16-10 after one period, 33-16 at halftime and 51-31 after three quarters. Vada Willmore and Emily Zavala each chipped in nine points, while
Mya Glass had eight. Brock distributed six assists.

Gadsden City fell to Plainview, 47-33, on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at PHS. Madison Tinker paced the Lady Titans with 11 points, followed by Naomi Wise with eight and Raina Underwood and Aaliyah Richard with five. Wise and Whiteside had six and five rebounds, respectively.

Gadsden City lost to Hazel Green, 54-19, on Monday, Nov. 18 in Huntsville. Madison Tinker scored seven points for the Lady Titans, followed by Raina Underwood with six and Destiny Whiteside with four. Naomi Wise grabbed six rebounds, while Ma’Liyah Kennon pulled down four.
