Northeast Alabama 4-H holds Pig Squeal Show and Auction

 The 2015 Northeast Alabama 4-H Pig Squeal Show and Auction was held Saturday, April 25 at the Sand Rock Livestock Pavilion. Twenty-six 4-H members from Etowah and Cherokee counties received two 50-pound pigs in early January and have been raising them since that time.  The program was designed for them to learn production management techniques fiscal responsibility and time management skills. The project culminated on Saturday with the 4-H members bringing their best pig to the show and then to have it auctioned off for processing. The average weight per pig was 239 pounds and the average price per pound received for the pigs was $1.23. Listed below are the results of the show. Thanks are extended to all of the auction buyers as well as the donors and supporters, including Etowah County Farmers Federation, Etowah County Young Farmers, Cherokee County Farmers Co-op, Alabama Pork Producers, Berry Animal Clinic, Helena Chemical, The Tractor Place, Mountain Top Hardware and Supplies, Gadsden Pediatric Clinic, M. Elizabeth Lachman, MD, LGM Racing and Development, Whitley Feed and Farm Supply, and Redbarn Feed and Supply. 

Class 1 Showmanship (Age 9):  1st:  Lukas Snead (Etowah County), 2nd: Lawson Bailey (Etowah County), 3rd: Will Rodgers (Cherokee County).

Class 2 Showmanship (Age 10):  1st: Jackson Rogers (Cherokee County), 2nd:  Megan Higgins (Etowah County), 3rd:  Gunner Cox (Cherokee County), 4th: Tucker McGlaughn (Etowah County), 5th: Sadie Abney (Etowah County), 6th: Laiton Keith (Cherokee County) and 7th: Ethan Martin (Etowah County).

Class 3 Showmanship (Age 11):  1st: Abby King (Cherokee County), 2nd: Sydney Keener (Cherokee County), 3rd: Hunter Watson (Cherokee County), 4th:  Andrew Renfroe (Etowah County).

Class 4 Showmanship (Ages 12-13): 1st place:  Wesley Rogers (Cherokee County), 2nd place:  Jeremy Chambers (Cherokee County), 3rd : Dustin Barrs (Etowah County), 4th place:  Dalton Martin (Etowah County), 5th place:  Autumn Daniell (Cherokee County) and 6th: Peyton Rodgers (Cherokee County).

Class 5 Showmanship (Ages 14-15):  1st place:  Eason Reece (Cherokee County), 2nd place:  Cara Parker (Cherokee County), 3rd: McKayla Self (Cherokee County), 4th: Dale Barrs (Etowah County).

Grand Champion Showman:  Wesley Rogers (Cherokee County)

Class 6 Sponsor Seeker Award for Etowah County:  Dustin Barrs.

Class 7 Sponsor Seeker Award for Cherokee County:  Hunter Watson.
