Patriots, Bulldogs come up short

West End lost to Sand Rock, 28-13, last Friday in a Class 2A, Region 7 contest in Walnut Grove.

Trailing 21-0, the Patriots (0-8, 0-6) got on the scoreboard in the second half by way of Levi Weems’ touchdown pass and a touchdown run by Chase Blanton. 

Weems completed 7-of-20 passes for 161 yards. He also rushed for 59 yards on 13 carries.

Blanton added 52 yard on 14 carries.

Caleb Epperson caught four passes for 50 yards.

West End concludes region play this week with a visit to Gaston.

Ider stepped on the gas and never let up last Friday (Oct. 19), cruising to a 42-12 Class 2A, Region 7 win over visiting Gaston.

The Hornets scored in every quarter and shut out the Bulldogs (0-8, 0-6) for more than three quarters before allowing two late scores.

Ider had a commanding 30-0 lead at halftime.

Gaston finally got on the board in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Douglas to Justin Bogle. 

Jalen Britton scrambled in the end zone on a two-yard run with 3:03 left in the game. 

Gaston hosts West End on Friday to close out the region portion of its schedule.
