The performances of Payne Stancil and Andre Little propelled the West End High football team to a 38-22 triumph over Falkville on Friday (Oct. 7) in a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup at FHS.
The Patriots (4-4, 2-3) are tied with Tarrant for fourth place in the Region 7 standings. West End owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with Tarrant. Cold Springs and Tanner lead the standings with 4-0 records. Cleveland is third at 3-1.
The Pats rolled to a 23-0 first-half advantage against the Blue Devils (1-6, 0-4),
Stancil’s 31-yard field goal gave West End a 3-0 lead. Stancil then fired touchdown passes of 42 and 17 yards to Little.
Little ran three yards for a touchdown, his third score of the night. The extra point made it 23-0.
Falkville scored and converted a two-point play, trimming it to 23-8.
West End added a safety to take a 25-8 lead at intermission.
Junior Tomas returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown, increasing the Patriots’ margin to 31-8.
Falkville scored a TD and converted for two points again, making it 31-16.
Stancil tossed his third touchdown pass of the night, a 65-yarder to Gage Lankford, to put the Patriots in front 38-16.
Falkville scored again but the two-point conversion failed.
West End is off this week. The Patriots conclude Region 7 play by hosting Winston County on Oct. 21.
