If West End High is to beat Section this week, it will take a lot of effort, obviously. It will also take better fundamentals.

In that vein, fundamentals have been the focus of this week’s practices.

“We went back to basics,” coach Kyle Davis said. “We’ve worked on us, getting our hitting, tackling and blocking back in shape.”

Davis said that Section, while not overly fast, is a big football team, with big lines and a big running back.

“We’ll have to play a big game to have a chance to still be there in the fourth quarter,” Davis said. “We’ll see Fri-day night how they respond.”

Last week against Cleveland, Jordan Malin rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Caegan Epperson ran 10 times for 75 yards, while Hunter Grant added 30 yards on six carries.

Tyler Moody and Tristan Garmony each had five tackles, while Andre Little had an interception.
