Pious Bob – The Power and Glory Forever

In the Book of Isaiah 42:1-9 we hear foretold, “I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench…He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his teaching…See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.”

God proclaimed through the prophets the coming Messiah, his Son and the Son of Man, Jesus the Christ. God’s voice rings clear through the prophet Isaiah, “The former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare.” The world is changed forever by the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, the Messiah.

God put His spirit upon Him and gave mankind these great gifts of love, grace, forgiveness and eternal life. God prepared His people for the gift that was to come so that they would recognize it. He says, “Before they spring forth, I tell you of them.”

It is good for us to reflect upon God’s description of His chosen Son. We can apply the characteristics of the one who is to come in our own lives, so that we might be created anew. We ponder on the unusual qualities of this King of kings and Lord of lords. He is strong and will bring justice to the nations.

In the same breath; however, God reveals that, “He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench.” We should have no doubt as to whom God is referring. Christ Jesus is our perfect example.

It is clear that God will have patience with the weak and those who have gone astray. He sees our imperfections, our bruises, and calls for healing. He sees a weak spirit in us and encourages us to seek Him through His Son and burn bright. Jesus the man did not grow faint until God’s work was done through Him. He was God’s great teacher and He has called us to carry on. Starting with the disciples He built the foundation of His great teaching instrument, The Church, The Body of Christ.

The power of Christ Jesus was in His inspired persistent meekness. This runs against the thinking of the natural world powers; however, the true kingdom and power and glory are fueled by it. When all else has come to pass, the new things that God has declared through Jesus remain to rule forever and ever. AMEN.
