Sardis, Glencoe come up short

Sardis High fell to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Class 4A, Region 7 with a 44-18 loss to Madison County last Friday (Oct. 14) in Gurley.
Madison County (5-3, 4-1) took a 7-0 lead before the Lions pulled within 7-6 on Drew Vaughn’s 12-yard touchdown run at 3:34 of the first quarter.
After the Tigers took a 14-6 lead, Sardis’ Jesus Hernandez returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to close the gap to 14-12 with just over s minute left in the opening period.
That was a close as the Lions would get, however, as Madison County scored four second-quarter touchdowns to go into intermission ahead 41-12.
A 20-yard filed goal in the third quarter stretched the Tiger advantage to 44-12.
Sardis closed out the scoring on Logan Gaskin’s 63-yard TD run with 6:05 left in the game.
The Lions conclude region play at home against Randolph this Friday (Oct. 21).

Glencoe High saw its streak of seven straight playoff appearances end last Friday (Oct. 14) in Anniston.
The Yellow Jackets could not hold onto a two-point halftime lead on the way to a 35-28 loss to Walter Wellborn in Class 3A, Region 5 action. The Yellow Jackets (1-4, 3-5) conclude region play this week at home against Ohatchee.
