Southside sweeps Gadsden Area Tournament

The Southside High School boys and girls’ golf teams won the Gadsden Area Golf Tournament at Twin Bridges on April 4.
The SHS boys edged Westbrook Christian, 336 to 342, while the Lady Panthers defeated Westbrook, 248 to 273. The low medalists were Southside’s Mallory Brooks for the girls at 74 and Westbrook’s Elie Edge for the boys at 72.
Following Brooks for the SHS girls were Shelby Hughes with 78, Molly Kate Cashman with 96 and Molly Pearce with 100. Logan McClendon led the Panthers with a 79 score, followed by Justin Lovoy with 80, Canaan Thompson with 87, Brenton Heath with 90 and Drew Clark with 94.
Following Edge for the runner-up Warriors were Cove McHugh with 86, Sayge Stephens with 90, J.D. Berndt with 94 and Luke Pearson with 96.
Kate Bowman paced the second-place Westbrook girls with an 83 score, followed by Lauren Weaver with 94, Karson Coppock with 96
and Lily McCrary with 120.
Hughes and Glencoe’s Camryn Blackwell (79) finished second and third, respectively, for the girls, while Gadsden City’s Judd Malone (78), Southside’s Logan McLendon (79) and Etowah’s Caden Argo (79) followed Edge for the boys.
