Gadsden City Titans used two stellar pitching performances and an explosive offense to sweep a double header from the visiting Etowah Blue Devils on Tuesday.
“These were great wins for our program,” said a happy Titan head coach Todd Lamberth. The Gadsden City Titans improved their record to 7-5 on the early season. “These are big wins in one of our rival games. We got two outstanding pitching performances from Tyler Roberson and Adam Colegrove. These wins are a tribute to our kids.” “We challenged them to show up and compete.” “We have lost three of our games by one run.”
Gadsden City exploded for nine runs over the first five innings en route to a 9-1 win in the opener. Tyler Roberson pitched a complete game to earn the win. Roberson allowed five hits over seven innings and allowed only one run in his performance.
Gadsden City wasted little time in getting to Etowah starter Josh Bobo, tallying three runs in the first inning. Titan lead-off batter John Hill walked and advanced to second on a ground out by Jay Copeland. Zack Burns followed with an RBI single to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Matthew Bishop then reached on a throwing error which plated Burns for the second Titan run. D.D. Adkison would follow one out later with an RBI single to give Gadsden City a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.
Gadsden City increased its lead to 5-0 with a two RBI single by Blaine Russell in the third inning. The Titans added two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead after five innings. The Blue Devils’ lone run of the evening came in the top of the sixth inning when Colby Dunn led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a ground out by Bobo. Dunn scored on a passed ball moments.
Gadsden City won the nightcap, blanking the Blue Devils 10-0.
Adam Colegrove pitched a gem, allowing only two hits and two walks. Colegrove only faced 18 batters in the five inning affair.
The Titans scored four runs in the first inning on a walk to Copeland. Burns’ single scored Copeland. Bishop followed with a single. Freeman scored Bishop on a double, which was followed by a two-run single by Adkison. Gadsden City held a 4-0 lead after one inning.
The Titans added a single run in the second inning and two runs in the third to increase their lead to 7-0. Gadsden City extended its lead in the fourth, adding two more runs. The Titans scored their tenth run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game.
Gadsden City (7-5) will play two home games this Saturday against Cherokee County and Oneonta. Etowah fell to 3-8 on the season.
