Warriors get past Sand Rock

Westbrook Christian scored 17 unanswered points on the way to a 17-7 win over Class 2A, Region 7 rival Sand Rock on Friday (Oct. 11) in Rainbow City. 

Dylan Mackey connected with Zane Farrar on a 56-yard touchdown pass with 4:58 left in the first quarter to get the Wildcats (4-3, 2-3) on the scoreboard first.  

Westbrook (4-3, 3-2) tied the game at 7-7 with 1:49 left in the first half when   quarterback Will Appleton scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Chris Underwood added the extra point.

The Warriors took the lead with 3:55 left in the third quarter on another Appleton scoring run. This one came from two yards out, and Underwood’s kick made it 14-7.

Underwood added a 25-yard field goal with 5:39 remaining in the game.

Appleton completed 12-of-28 pass attempts for 171 yards and rushed for 62 yards and two scores on 14 carries.

Westbrook hosts Section on Friday in another region contest.
