With that 2-2 record in Class 2A, Region 7, Westbrook Christian has control of its own destiny for the rest of this season.

The Warriors are in a four-way tie with Sand Rock, Ider and Section for third place.

Only two of those four teams will get in the state playoffs, so every win counts for sure now.

“We could possibly win two of the next three and be in,” Westbrook coach Tony Osborne said. “But to be sure, we need to win all three.”

The Warriors run the gamut to finish the regular season, with Section and North Sand Mountain (which is in second place) looming.

Westbrook has a huge positive factor this week though, as offensive/defensive lineman Ethan Lake, a four-year starter, returns from injury.

“We’re getting a little better every week,” Osborne said. “The season has gone about like I figured, with all of the youth we have.”

The Warriors will be facing a Sand Rock team that resembles every Sand Rock team in Russell Jacoway’s long tenure as head coach.

“They’re going to throw the ball well, run it well and defend well,” Osborne said. “They don’t make the mistakes to beat themselves and that’s the mark of a well-coached team.”
