The City of Gadsden is offering an exciting new way to experience the Coosa River this summer with pedal boat rentals at Coosa Landing.

“We are excited to offer families and friends something fun and safe to do together this summer while enjoying the great outdoors in Gadsden,” said Mayor Craig Ford. “I am looking forward to seeing all the pictures of the purple dragon, duck, and swans full of people going up and down the river. It should be a lot of fun!”

Four pedal boats featuring unique animal designs – two swans, a duck, and a dragon – will be available for rental this summer. Each boat can fit up to five people, with two peddlers up front and a fully enclosed back bench seat.

The City will begin piloting the rentals starting Memorial Day weekend. Anyone interested in renting the boats can visit the Coosa Landing bait shop starting at 9 a.m. The last rental of the day is at 5 p.m.

Renters must be at least 18 years old and bring ID. Life jackets are required, and the city has some available for approved passengers. The rental fee is $20, which provides access for up to one hour. However, if multiple hours are needed, the first hour is $20 and each hour thereafter is $15.

Because this is the first summer of the rental program, the rules, fees, and times are subject to change. For more information, call 256-549-4677.
