West End falls to Cleveland in region shootout

West End opened its Class 2A, Region 7 schedule last Friday (Sept. 6) with a 65-44 loss to Cleveland in Walnut Grove.

After the Patriots (0-3, 0-1) took a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs of 80 and 4 yards by quarterback Eli Pearce (pictured above), the Panthers scored 30 straight points.
The Patriots took an early 14-0 lead on an 80-yard scoring run by Eli Pearce on the first play from scrimmage and a 4-yard TD run with 7:25 left in the first quarter.
West End pulled within 37-29 on respective touchdown passes to Jeremiah Roberson (six yards) and Trevor Willett, but the hosts would get no closer.
Pearce completed 22-of-55 passes for 422 yards and four touchdown passes while rushing 14 times for 69 yards two TDs.
Robertson had eight receptions for 118 yards, while Jackson Tidmore caught six passes for 121 yards.
West End continues region play the Friday (Sept. 6) at Westbrook Christian in Rainbow City.
