Westbrook soccer teams win first round matches

The Westbrook Christian girls and boys soccer teams both advanced to the second round of the Class 4A/5A state soccer playoffs.
The Westbrook girls (17-3-0) notched a 4-0 shutout over Douglas on April 28 in Rainbow City, while the Warriors (17-2-2) defeated Guntersville, 2-1, last Saturday (April 30) in Rainbow City.
After a scoreless first half for the girls, Ella Keene got the Lady Warriors on the scoreboard with the eventual winning goal. Ella Keene then set up a goal from Anna Kate Edwards, while Keene scored a goal of her own for a 3-0 lead. Keene then set up Clair Upton for Westbrook’s final goal.
Both teams play second-round matches on Tuesday, May 3. The girls host Lincoln, while the boys travel to Leeds.
