The Glencoe Yellow Jackets fell to the visiting Susan Moore Bulldogs, 20-14, last Friday in Class 3A, Region 5 action at GHS.

The Glencoe offense was driving to tie the game in the final minute, but the Yellow Jackets were halted on a fourth down and 6 on the Susan Moore 21-yard line.

“Our kids played hard, but we made mistakes on both sides of the ball,” said Glencoe Head Coach Lee Ozmint. “In the first half we gave up the two trick plays, but down the stretch I felt like we made plays.”

The Yellow Jackets forced the Bulldogs (4-4, 3-3) into a three-and-out on the game’s first possession. Glencoe started its first drive on the Jacket 14, but a fumble halted the series.

Susan Moore took advantage of the turnover on a touchdown run from Preston Kent with 5:55 remaining in the first quarter, giving Susan Moore a 6-0 lead.

Being down a score didn’t sit well with Glencoe (3-5, 2-4), as the Yellow Jackets’ second possession ended with a 12-yard scoring run by Thomas Ozmint with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, giving the Jackets the lead at 7-6.

Susan Moore’s next drive began on the Bulldog 43, and a tackle-reverse play for 42 yards gave the Bulldogs a first down at the Glencoe 26.

Susan Moore then moved the ball to the Glencoe 5. On a fourth and 4, a five-yard passing score from Ryan Brown to Kent coupled with the two-point conversion gave Susan Moore a 14-7 lead with 2:02 remaining in the half.

The Bulldogs scored another touchdown with 45 seconds left in the half on a 73-yard hook-and-lateral play.

The Glencoe defense held off the two-point conversion attempt, giving the Bulldogs a 20-7 lead going into the half.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 16-play scoring drive, highlighted by Hunter Nunnally going a perfect 6-for-6 and throwing a 10-touchdown strike to Daniel Otwell to draw Glencoe within 20-14.

Susan Moore got the ball back with 7:21 remaining in the game and drove to the Glencoe 32.

On a third down and 11 with 2:30 minutes to go, Nunnally completed a pass to Daniel Otwell for 17 yards to keep the drive alive.

Otwell caught another pass from Nunnally at the 25, but that’s where the drive ended.

Ozmint rushed for 97 yards on 15 carries, while Otwell ran seven times for 57 yards. Otwell also caught six passes for 86 yards.

Nunnally was 15-for-25 in passing with 148 yards.

Houston Word led Glencoe with 11 tackles, followed by Pace Ozmint and Mason Brown with six each.
