Local sports hall of fame inducts Class of 2016

The Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame inducted four new members last Saturday (Apr. 9). 

The 2016 class included Gadsden High graduate Danny Carlisle, Emma Sansom High graduate Gene Jelks, Southside High graduate Jerry Jones and Hokes Bluff High graduate Mike Robertson.

Local players named to North basketball roster

Three area high school juniors were selected participate in the annual North/South All-Star girls basketball team. 

Gadsden City’s Haley Troup and Brooke Burns and Hokes Bluff’s Kendall Johnson were named to the North rosters earlier this week. The girls’ and boys’ basketball games will be played at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the Alabama State University campus on July 20

Westbrook sweeps Gadsden Area Golf Tournament

Local student named Bryant-Jordan state winner

A pair of Etowah County student-athletes were recognized at the 31st annual Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Awards Banquet on Monday (Apr. 11) in Birmingham.

Hokes Bluff’s Emily Frederick and Glencoe’s Will Brown were two of one hundred and four high school regional senior honorees awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships. Frederick was selected as the 2016 Class 4A state winner

Local youth soccer program helping to ease more than hunger

G.O.A.L. Foundation, a non-profit organization in the Etowah County area, kicked off its first after-school program session on March 16 at Gaston High School​. 

G.O.A.L. is a free mentoring program for ages 5-16 for students within the Etowah County school system. Fab 4 Futsal is a fast-paced indoor soccer game held every Saturday morning at Gaston School’s elementary gym.

Southside rolls to fifth straight county softball title
