The Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center will host its 5th annual Crawfish Boil and Fly-In on Saturday, May 13 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Airport in Gadsden from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The money raised will go to support the Humane Society.

“The gates open at 11 a.m., and the crawfish will be ready to go,” said Humane Society Director Christi Brown. “We are also going to have hotdogs for non-mudbug eaters.”

Don’t have time to stick around and eat? The food will be also available to-go between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Just come out to pick it up!

“It is the freshest crawfish you are gonna get,” said Brown. “They bring them in the day before.”

To provide entertainment, The Sky Dogs, a classic rock band, will perform.

“They play every year,” said Brown. “They donate their day to play.”

Several vendors will be set up, including Custom Photo Boutique, LuLaRoe, Black Creek Productions, Petco and the Humane Society. Shane from Mix 102.9 will be there announcing.

There will be door prizes and raffle tickets for sale. One prize, donated by Fly Gadsden, is a discovery flight, which is a flight around the local area.

“We just want people to come out and support the Humane Society,” said Brown.

Admission to the event is $5 each. Children 12 and under get in free. Pets are welcome to attend, but they must be on a leash with updated vaccines. Water will be provided for the dogs, and waste stations will be set up.

Seating is limited, and attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

The crawfish boil came about when Fly Gadsden, a group that offers flight training out of the local airport wanted to do something to benefit the Humane Society. The fundraiser brings about 200 vistors to the airport.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to highlight our local airport,” said Brown. “We will have some old planes flying in, so it will be neat to get out and check out some old planes and support a good cause.”

Sponsors for the event include Fly Gadsden, C. King Benefit Auction, Tameron Honda, Rainbow City Pet Clinic, Mix 102.9, Harp and Clover and McClellan Chiropractic.

The Humane Society will be have adoptable pets at the event, but the shelter will still be open for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well.

The Humane Society and the YMCA will also have Mutts and Butts on May 13 at 9 a.m. at Noccalula Falls Park. The group will meet at the Wedding Chapel.
