Local trio recognized by ASWA

A trio of local student-athletes was nominated for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Week award for Week 6 of the high school football season.

Sardis senior running back Toby Pee scored five touchdowns, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a score, in the Lions’ 42-40 overtime win over Guntersville. Pee, who ran in the deciding two-point conversion in OT, finished with 155 rushing yards on 25 carries.

Westbrook Christian senior quarterback Jonathan Ford threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in a 52-14 win over Gaston.

Etowah senior cornerback Jay Duckett intercepted three passes – including two that set up touchdowns –  in  the Blue Devils’ 40-14 win over Scottsboro.
