Gadsden City closed out its season with a 21-14 overtime loss to Class 7A, Region 3 rival Vestavia Hills on October 22.
Following a scoreless second and third quarter, the Titans took a 14-7 lead with 8:09 left in the game on Luke Waldrop’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Mason Williams along with Gabriel Brito’s extra point.
But the Rebels tied the game when Vestavia Hills blocked a GCHS punt and Ken Vickers recovered the ball in the end zone with 3:41 remaining. Vestavia Hills then won the game in the extra session on Cole Turner’s 10-yard pass to Aiden Black.
The Titans (5-5, 2-5) scored on the game’s opening drive on C.J. Miller’s 64-yard touchdown run and Gabriel Brito’s PAT. The Rebels answered with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter when Cole Turner caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell Towns.
For Gadsden City, Waldrop was 15 for 31 in passing for 200 yards. Khamari Smith caught four passes for 85 yards, while Octavious Griffin, Justin Peoples and Mason Johnson each had two receptions. C.J. Miller rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while Waldrop ran seven times for 31 yards. Isaiah Taylor, Rodney Johnson and Malik Woods each had five tackles. Aaron Richard had two sacks, while Nehemiah Washington had an interception.
