Glencoe ends skid; Ashville, Etowah, Westbrook win

Glencoe halted a 13-game winless streak with a 49-0 victory over Class 3A, Region 5 rival Pleasant Valley on October 22.
For the Yellow Jackets (1-8, 1-6), Nolan Fairley was 5 for 9 in passing for 89 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries. Andrew Wright rushed for 70 yards on eight attempts, while Mason Teague gained 58 yards on three runs. Drew Johnston had two catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns.
Teague and Aaron Mann each had six tackles, followed by Hunter Hanners, Wade Segrest and Levi Long with four each. Mann had two sacks, while Teague, Segrest, Long, Kody Kueny and Kade Kueny each an in interception.
Glencoe finishes the season this Friday (Oct. 22) at Plainview.

Ashville clinched its second straight non-losing season with a 24-14 win over Fultondale in Class 4A, Region 6 action on October 22.
The Bulldogs (5-4, 2-4) finished with 244 rushing yards while holding the Wildcats to 61.

Ashville opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run by Jalen Williams and Greyson Simpson’s extra point. Fultondale took a brief lead on a touchdown pass and a two-ppont conversion before Cole Hyatt and Dylan Harris connected on a 4-yard touchdown pass. Simpson pushed through the PAT for a 14-8 Ashville advantage. The Bulldogs scored twice in the third quarter – first on Simpson’s 32-yard field goal and then on Williams 43-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Harris rushed for 68 yards on 16 carries, Jalen Williams gained 60 yards on 12 attempts and Cole Hyatt finished with 70 yards on seven runs.

Ashville can notch the program’s first winning season since 2005 with a win over Weaver at home this Friday (Oct. 29).

Etowah closed out its Class 4A, Region 6 schedule on October 22 with a 17-14 victory over Dora.
For the Blue Devils (5-4, 5-1), Trace Thompson completed 22 of 25 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Pierce had seven receptions for 67 yards, while Jarvis Hardwick caught six passes for 26 yards. Dee Spears had four receptions for 43 yards. Josh Hendrix rushed 12 times for 95 yards, while Andrew Pierce gained 62 yards on 14 attempts.
Etowah concludes the regular season this Friday (Oct. 22) at home against Southside.

Karmichael Cattling finished with 270 combined yards and three touchdowns in Westbrook Christian’s 54-12 victory over Gaston in Class 2A, Region 6 action on October 22 in Rainbow City.
Cattling caught two passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns and ran back two kickoffs 168 yards, one for a TD. Mason Coley was 5 for 7 in passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Allen rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Asher Keck ran for a 97-yard touchdown.
The Warriors (3-6, 2-5) close out the season this Friday (Oct. 29) at Donoho.
