Tucker Griffin rushed for over 200 yards and scored three touchdowns as Hokes Bluff wrapped up its season with a 42-12 victory over Sardis on October 29 in Sardis City.
In the final game of his high school career, Griffin (pictured above) gained 205 yards on 28 carries. Teammate Jordan Bradley finished with 200 total yards. He was 7 for 8 in passing for 100 yards and rushed 12 times for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
Griffin’s first score came midway through the first quarter on a 41-yard run. The Lions (1-9, 1-5) answered on the ensuing kickoff, which Kane Lawson returned 92 yards for a touchdown. That was a close as Sardis would get, as the Eagles (4-6, 3-4) scored four straight touchdowns to put the game out of reach.
Griffin rambled for a 61-yard TD at the five-minute mark of the first period to make it 14-6, while a pair of second-quarter touchdown runs from quarterback Jordan Bradley – the first from 24 yards out and the second from 12 – pushed the advantage to 28-6 at halftime.
Griffin’s third TD, a 1-yard plunge at 5:44 of the third period, made it 34-6. The Lion offense then scored its first and only touchdown on Avery Carroll’s 3-yard run.
The Eagles closed out the scoring early in the fourth quarter on Bradley’s 9-yard TD run.
Also for Hokes Bluff, Will Wellingham caught four passes for 51 yards.
For Sardis, Brody Samples rushed 14 times for 74 yards, while Carroll gained 42 yards on seven attempts. Lawson had two receptions.
