Lady Panthers win Golden Goal tournament

The Southside High girls soccer team defeated Class 7A Smiths Station, 6-4 in penalty kicks to win the Golden Goal Tournament on February 12 at the Sand Mountain Park in Albertville.
Alana Morton scored the Lady Panthers’ lone goal in regulation in the first half, assisted by Ziniah Hardy. Smiths Station scored with three minutes left in regulation.
Maddy Sprinkle, Camryn Davis, and Alana Morton scored in the first penalty kick session, with Anna Kate Welch (pictured above) making a pair of saves in goal. In the second round, Kelsey Jackson and Leah Lewis scored and Welch made two saves to secure the victory.
Class 6A No. 5 Southside opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Class 7A No. 8 Sparkman.
Camryn Davis scored both Southside goals, with Kinsey Carter assisting on the first goal. The Lady Panthers then beat Lincoln, 4-1, with Alana Morton scoring a pair of goals and Davis and Lewis adding one each. In assists, Davis had two assists, while Morton and Madison Ashley adding one each. Goalie Welch had one save.
In the semifinals, Southside posted a 4-1 win over Class 1A-3A Susan Moore. Morton, Davis, Lewis and Kinsey Carter each scored one goal, with Morton, Davis and Brooklyn Dobbins each getting assist. Welch had one save.
