Titans come up short against Hartselle

Despite the Titan defense pitching a shutout in the second half, Gadsden City fell to Class 6A No. 6 Hartselle, 16-9, on September 16 at GCHS.
Trailing 16-0 at halftime, The Titans (2-3, 1-1) drew within 13 points on Gabriel Brito’s 35-yard field goal at 8:54 of the third quarter. Jackson Veasy’s 6-yard touchdown run on the next GCHS possession cut the deficit to 16-9 but Gadsden City’s final drive ended on a failed fourth down conversion attempt.
For the Titans, Kai Franklin was 7 for 14 in passing for 85 yards, while Jordan Nowell completed 6 of 19 passes for 53 yards.
T.J. Worthy had six receptions for 44 yards. Justin Peoples, Clyde Curry and Jacob Perry each caught two passes. Worthy rushed 10 times for 31 yards.
Dre Kirkpatrick had six tackles, followed by K’Rsiak Yow and Braylen Starkes with five each. Kirkpatrick also recovered a fumble.
Gadsden City continues non-region play this Friday (Sept. 30) at home against No. 4 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.
