Pageant participants donate to animal shelter

Lilly Edwards, a seven-year-old from Gadsden, is a frequent visitor of the Sylacauga Animal Shelter.

In the past she has brought gourmet dog biscuits for the canine residents and Monday, May 23, she brought in nearly $1,200 of in-kind donations for the shelter.

Edwards worked with fellow Miss Gadsden pageant contestants to organize a community service effort to collect cleaning supplies, toys and animal food.

“The Sylacauga Animal Shelter staff is impressed that a seven-year-old girl spearheaded a community service effort that resulted in nearly $1,200 of in-kind donations to benefit the animals the shelter staff strives to help, heal and rehome,” the shelter said in a press release. “Clearly, Lilly is leading by example. An example we hope many more will follow.”
