A last-second three-point by Fyffe missed at the final buzzer to give Gaston a 53-50 victory in the Class 2A Area 12 Tournament in boys basketball on Feb. 7 at Gaston.
The Bulldogs led 27-24 at halftime and trailed 38-37 after three quarters.
Gaston’s Mica Merriman and Devon Green were named tournament co-MVPs. Green finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, while Merriman collected 11 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. Kodie Bogle added 11 points, followed by Peyton Morrison with nine.
The Bulldogs host Lanett in the subregional playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Southside fell to Alexandria, 71-40, in the championship game of the Class 5A Area 12 Tournament in in boys basketball on Feb. 7. The Panthers will travel to Scottsboro in the subregional playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 10.
