City of Gadsden honors nation’s fallen with memorial flag displays

The City of Gadsden is displaying the nation’s colors this Memorial Day as more than 155 new American flags are on display along local highways.

“Memorial Day is about more than just marking the start of summer – it’s a time to pause and remember those who gave their lives serving our country,” said Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford. “Gadsden has a strong tradition of patriotism and service, so we want to make sure we honor that with new displays along our city’s major thoroughfares.”

The new flags were installed along sections of U.S. Highway 411 and U.S. Highway 431. New ground anchors were also installed, which will be flush with the ground, allowing for easy grass-cutting and proper maintenance.

Installation of the flags began Wednesday, May 22.
