Patriots notch first win

West End earned its first win of the season with a 33-0 victory over Ider on Friday, Oct. 18 at Ider. It was West End’s first shutout since Week 1 of the 2023 season.
The Patriots (1-7, 0-4), which scored all of their points in the first half, finished with 352 total yards, including 270 via the rush, while holding the Hornets to 70.
West End took the lead for good at 7:46 of the first period on Dalton Fulmer’s 2-yard touchdown run. Five minutes later, Jaxon Hamby (pictured above) and Jackson Mayo teamed up for a 33-yard touchdown pass and a 13-0 advantage.
The Patriots’ 20-point outburst in the second quarter began with Dalton Fulmer’s 10-yard TD run and Tyler Graham’s PAT.
Jaxon Hamby’s 5-yard TD run at the 9:26 mark made it 27-0, while Hamby’s 10-yard scoring pass to Eli Williams pushed the lead to 33 points.
Hamby was 6 for 11 in passing for 82 yards and rushed three times for 35 yards.
Brent Williamson ran for 119 yards on seven attempts, Fulmer carried 11 times for 82 yards and Braison Howard gained 34 yards on five carries. Howard also had an interception on defense.
Mayo had four receptions for 78 yards. Eli Williams caught a 10-yard touchdown pass.
The Patriots will be back in Class 2A Region 6 play against Coosa Christian at home on Friday, Oct. 18.
