Cross country roundup: Southside sweeps Fairview 5K

The Southside boys and girls cross country teams swept the Hay of a Run 5K in the Class 5A-7A division on Oct. 12 at Fairview High School.
The Lady Panthers’ point total of 15 was 34 points lower than runner-up Fairview, while the Panthers edged Fairview, 27 to 30.
The girls placed eight runners in the top 10, including the first six finishers. Marley Tucker (pictured above) paced Southside with a first-place time of 21:15.18, followed by Lydia Kay at 21:38.12, Payton Ridley at 21:38.26, Lucy Valentine at 22:48.29, Mallory Tucker at 23:48.23 and Riley Hulsey at 23:59.37. Laney Ridgeway came in eighth at 24:59.62, followed by Madelyn Chandler in ninth at 25:19.99.
The boys had five runners in the top 10, led by Evan Christopher’s winning time of 16:06.84. Jackson Brown claimed fifth place with a time of 19:18.37, followed by Levi Kay in seventh at 19:24.89, Keaton Yingling in eighth at 20:01.98, Pranjal Sharma in ninth at 20:07.70 and Jackson Haynes in 10th at 20:40.14. Sardis’ Braxton Jones finished in sixth place at 19:22.92.

Hokes Bluff’s Ethan Patterson and Emma Godfrey finished in the top five at the Volunteer Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Lineville. Patterson’s time of 17:20.00 in the boys’ 5K placed him third out of 158 runners, while Godfrey came in fifth in the girls’ competition of 99 runners with a time of 23:25.58.

At the Leeds Invitational on Oct. 12, Ashville’s Allie Cone came in ninth out of 128 runners with a time of 21:59.91. The Bulldogs’ Coby Caswell finished 19th out of 178 runners in the boys’ 5K with a time of 19:11.72.
