Gadsden City High School’s girls and boys soccer teams brought home the championship titles at the Etowah County Soccer Tournament on Friday and Saturday, defeating the defending champions, the Southside Panthers, who had won the tournament the past two years.
“I’m proud of both teams and their hard work,” Samantha Corker, head coach of the boys varsity team, said.
The Lady Titans defeated Westbrook Christian 3-1, Hokes Bluff 7-0 and Southside 2-0. Throughout the tournament, the Lady Titans scored 12 goals, recorded 9 assists, and made 11 saves. Caroline Frederick scored three goals, Fiyin Oguntoyo scored five, and Evy Johnson, Helen Lancaster and Eleanor Simmons each scored one.
Miriam Rasool, Ellen Hill, Lancaster, Kaitlyn Calloway, Jazzy Bentley, Raegan Brooks and Frederick each recorded an assist, while Emily Sollie had two. Ella Jennings recorded nine saves in goal, and Carter Roberts had two.
The Titans defeated Westbrook Christian 2-0, Coosa Christian 6-1 and Southside 2-1. The Titans finished the tournament with nine goals, seven assists, and 14 saves.
Juan Antonio, Andres Felix, Byron Felix, Pablo Infante, Isaac Lopez, Shalom Sekaya and Ozwaldo Tomas each scored one goal, while Larsen Wancique scored two. Andres Felix, Lopez, Byron Felix, David Perkins and Diego Marroquin each recorded an assist, while Cedric Wancique had two. Adriana Fernandez recorded four saves in goal, and Jessai Lopez had 10.
