The City of Glencoe should have a new splash pad ready by the time school is out next year according to city council chairman Danny Wagnon.
The city council accepted a bid by Aqua Design at a recent meeting.
The contract for construction of the splash pad is in the amount of $103,800. The city acquired a Land Water Conservation grant to help fund the project.
“We were very pleased to get the grant which allowed us to build another water feature for the citizens since we had to close the pool,” Wagnon said.
“I visited several cities that have splash pads and they said they were very popular.
“Our pool was outdated and the maintenance and cost of operating it was not feasible anymore.
“We learned also that it was going to cost us approximately $20,000 to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for the pool.
“We are going to use the area where the pool was to put in some other attractions for our young people.”
The splash pad is planned to be located in Wilson Park near the pavilion and
playground area.
