Hokes Bluff Middle marks World School Milk Day

Many of HBMS students were masked as moo-ers during activities on World School Milk Day.

Hokes Bluff Middle School is not the only local school to celebrate World School Milk Day, but it is the only school with a chance to repeat last year’s win in the state competition.

Through Sudia, HBMS claimed the title of “The Best World School Milk Day Celebration,” according to Child Nutrition Program Manager Apache Smothers. The school won two six-foot milk bottles, which were on display as part of this year’s activities.

Smothers said Etowah County Board of Education Child Nutrition Program Director Laura Parker has done a great job of getting everyone excited about milk day. The goals of the program include teaching the students and the staff the reasons that milk is good for them and to promote dairy products as a way of supporting dairy farmers.

Milk Day activities included a milk bottle recycling competition, a poster contest, a teacher door decoration contest, a “cow” milking contest, a mooing contest, milk/cow trivia, a guess the milk bean competition and the milk mustache photo booth.
