Gov. Robert Bentley has appointed J. Holland as the newest member of the Gadsden Civil Service Board.

“I look forward to serving the people of Gadsden – the city I love,” Holland said.

Holland has been a long time resident of the Gadsden area and has been very active in civic and community work in Gadsden since the late 1970s.

Republican party politics has also been a passion for Holland as he has twice been a candidate for the legislature and has served many years in promoting the Conservative cause in Etowah and surrounding counties, and statewide.

“I am happy Gov. Bentley made such a wise choice. J. will do a great job,” Republican Party Chairman Joe Nabors said.

Bentley also appointed Holland as a commissioner of Alabama Public Television in February 2012.

The Gadsden Civil Service Board was created in 1951 by the legislature to oversee Gadsden’s police and fire departments.

The board’s responsibility is to hire and fire the chiefs and personnel and dispense discipline in the police and fire departments.

Holland will replace two-term board member Jason Stinson, and he will serve until April 2017.
