Southside wary of speedy Saints

Don’t let the Saints’ record fool you.

St. Clair County has the athletes to win some ball games, according to Southside coach Ron Daugherty.

“Watching them on film, if you didn’t know better, you would think they were winning all of their games,” Daugherty said. “There is no area that you look at and think they’re at a disadvantage.”

The Odenville squad is loaded with quality athletes at every position, according to Daugherty.

“They’ve played some tough opponents and moved the ball up and down the field on them,” he said. “But they’ve had problems with turnovers and such, keeping them from scoring at times.”

Daugherty said that St. Clair has skill guys who can take the ball to the end zone on any play and they have the speed to go sideline-to-sideline.

“We’ve got to be in position and get on every player on every play or they’ll bust a big one,” Daugherty said. “There will be no easy series – they’ll be in position and be ready.”

The Panthers, who have won their past two games, currently share second place with Scottsboro in the Class 6A, Region 7. At 3-0, Fort Payne has one more region win then the Panthers and Wildcats.

Last week against Brewer, Holt Keeling rushed 13 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns, while Aleric Williams had 10 carries for 142 yards and a touchdown.
