Alabama week in review

The Crimson Tide completed a regular season sweep of Auburn after a comfortable 79-68 win over the Tigers on Tuesday (Feb. 17). It was a much-needed victory for the Tide, especially after they suffered a disappointing home loss to Vanderbilt a few days prior. Alabama currently stands at 16-10 overall, and 6-7 in conference play. The Tide welcomes Georgia to Coleman Coliseum on Saturday (Feb. 21).

Auburn week in review

The Tigers upset victory over Georgia on Saturday (Feb. 14) was overshadowed by a disappointing loss to Alabama at home on Tuesday. Auburn has been wildly inconsistent throughout the course of the season, and that was especially evident in the last week. The Tigers currently are 12-14 overall, and 4-9 in league play. Auburn travels to Lexington to take on the top ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday.

Week 7 Previews and Predictions

Week 6: 8-5; season: 31-15

Saturday, Feb. 21

Texas A&M at South Carolina. South Carolina has made improvements over the course of the season, and the Gamecocks pulled off an impressive sweep of Georgia last weekend. Texas A&M is still firmly in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament bid, but the Aggies need to continue to compile wins. Prediction: Texas A&M 62, South Carolina 60.

Florida at LSU. LSU’s streakiness continues. One game, the Tigers look like a team that can make a run in the NCAA Tournament. In the next contest, they look like an NIT team. LSU already has beaten Florida once this year and needs to do so again to stay on the right side of the bu-bble. Prediction: LSU 70, Florida 67.

Missouri at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has been disappointing in SEC play but still has a chance to make the NIT. Missouri is just looking for a win to end an awful losing streak. Prediction: Vanderbilt 65, Missouri 57.

Arkansas at Mississippi State. The Razorbacks look like the SEC’s second-best team and are nearly a lock for the NCAA Tour-nament. At this point, the Hogs are just playing for a better seed. Prediction: Arkansas 76, Mississippi State 66.

Auburn at Kentucky. Kentucky’s path to an undefeated season shouldn’t be challenged this weekend against Auburn. Prediction: Kentucky 81, Auburn 58.

Tennessee at Ole Miss. As of now, Ole Miss is an NCAA Tournament team. However, the Rebels cannot afford too many more losses and need to beat the middle of the road teams in the league. Ole Miss has a chance to be as high as an eight or nine seed if it continues playing at a high level. Prediction: Ole Miss 74, Tennessee 71.

Georgia at Alabama. Georgia is limping down the stretch. Back-to-back home losses to Auburn and South Carolina have damaged a once solid NCAA Tournament resume. The Bulldogs aren’t out of the picture just yet, but they need wins and they need them quickly. Otherwise, the ‘Dawgs are headed to the NIT, and Mark Fox might be out of a job. Prediction: Georgia 58, Alabama 55.
