Southside fell to Arab, 20-19, in overtime last Friday (Oct. 5) in Class 5A, Region 7 action at Arab.

A failed PAT in the extra session doomed the Panther cause after Hunter Armstrong’s 10-yard run gave Southside a 19-13 lead.

The Knights responded with Will Morgan’s one-yard run and Jason Willard’s PAT to give Arab the victory.

Willard’s field goal at 8:27 of the first quarter stood as the game’s only points until Armstrong’s 10-yard run seven seconds into the fourth period for a 6-3 Panther advantage.

The hosts regained the lead at 10-6 a few minutes later on Easton Anderson’s 16-yard TD run with 7:11 left in regulation, but Southside went ahead 13-10 by way of Armstrong’s eight-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes remaining.

Dantley Coker led the Panther ground game with 122 yards on 19 carries, while Armstrong ran 11 times for 51 yards.

Southside hosts Boaz on Friday in a key region matchup.
