Several area players were nominated for the Alabama School Athletic Association’s Prep Football Spotlight for Week 3 of the 2024 season.
Ashville junior quarterback J.B. Potter accounted for 439 of the team’s 449 offensive yards in the Bulldogs’ 31-20 victory over Oneonta. Potter was 18 for 29 in passing for 385 yards and five touchdowns and rushed 13 times for 54 yards. Junior receiver Nate Huckbay caught eight passes for 204 yards and three TDs. He also had two interceptions on defense. The win snapped a 16-game losing streak dating back to Week 6 of the 2022 season. It was also Ashville’s first region win during that same span.
Coosa Christian senior defensive end Zayden Franklin finished with eight tackles, six of which were for a loss, and three sacks in the Conquerors’ 42-0 win over Falkville. The Coosa defense limited Falkville to 11 yards and three first downs while holding the Blue Devils to 1 for 16 combined on third and fourth down conversion attempts.
Hokes Bluff junior quarterback Bryce Whitaker rushed for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 carries while adding 54 passing yards in the Eagles’ 31-0 victory over White Plains.
Westbrook Christian sophomore quarterback Brody Blevins rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries and was 7 for 12 in passing for 46 yards in the Warriors’ 47-43 loss to Locust Fork.
Westbrook Christian sophomore linebacker Titus Jones had eight tackles and two sacks in the Warriors’ 47-43 loss to Locust Fork.
