Cardinals fall in conference tournament quarterfinals

Gadsden State’s hopes of a state volleyball title came to an end in the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament quarterfinals last Sunday (Nov. 1) at Beck Field House. 

Relegated to the playback bracket after a 20-25, 22-25, 21-25 defeat at the hands of eventual champion Wallace-Hanceville, the Lady Cardinals (16-17, 12-5) exited the double-elimination tournament with a 15-25, 20-25, 19-25 loss to Faulkner State.

Gadsden State opened the tournament on Saturday (Oct. 31) with a 25-17, 20-25, 30-28, 25-20 victory over Faulkner. 

For the tournament for the Lady Cardinals, Summer Hinton had 36 kills, 62 digs and five aces; Emma Easley had 19 kills and 62 digs; JoLee Dobbs had 43 assists; J’Nae Fraser had 100 digs; Kaycee Willingham had 27 assists and 11 digs; Jewel Mathis had 13 kills and four blocks; Tamaria Mays had 16 kills and five blocks; Abbie Mills had seven kills and 10 digs; Riley Carter had 18 digs; and Anna Sanders had 12 digs and three blocks. 

Hinton and Easley were named to the All-Tournament team.
