Etowah wins Gadsden Umpires Tournament

The Etowah High softball team went 5-1 to win the Gadsden Umpires Tournament last weekend at the Gadsden Sports Complex.

The Lady Blue Devils (21-7) opened the tournament on Friday (Apr. 4) with a 3-0 win over Plainview and a 9-1 victory over Collinsville. On Saturday, Etowah lost to Fort Payne, 7-1 before defeating Gaston, 15-1; Pisgah, 6-5 in eight innings; and Ider, 3-1.

Madison Grant went 5-1 for Etowah on the mound. In 32 innings, she struck out 37 while allowing 21 hits, 10 earned runs and 18 walks. She also had three hits, a home run, four RBI and four runs scored.

Also at the plate for the Lady Blue Devils, Amber Jones had seven hits, a home run, 10 RBI, and two doubles; Jessica Smith had six hits, a homerun, five RBI and three runs; Brooke Perry had six hits, two doubles, five RBI and three runs; Emma Jones had seven hits, three RBI and four runs; Nicki Rodgers had six hits, two RBI and five runs; Aimee Fancher had three hits, three RBI and three runs; Madison Bishop had one RBI and three runs; and Alyssa Howard had two hits and two runs.
