If Glencoe can come away with a victory over Saks tonight (Oct. 5), homefield advantage in the first round of the playoffs will still be a very real possibility.
At the moment, the Wild-cats are tied with Piedmont for the region lead.
The Yellow Jackets and Weaver are tied for third. Glencoe has already defeated the Bearcats, so the Jackets would win in a tiebreaker situation.
“We’re focusing on what we need to focus on and that is this week,” Glencoe coach Lee Ozmint said. “We’re still working hard on getting better, and the kids are eager to prove themselves.”
The Wildcats have won four games in a row and right now are tied with Piedmont atop the Class 3A, Region 5.
“Their quarterback (Tim Johnson) is one of the best we’ll see this year,” Ozmint said. “He can beat you with his arm and with his legs.
“Tremon Johnson is probably the best athlete in the region. And Lararius Young is one of the best tailbacks we’ll see. He’s big and physical and also fast.
“We know they’re very talented and this will be a good test to start the second half (of the season).”
Jonathan Miller is in his first year at the helm in Saks.
Last week against Hokes Bluff, Thomas Ozmint finished with 151 rushing yards on 25 carries, while Daniel Otwell ran eight times for 51 yards.
Hunter Nunnally was 6-for-13 in passing for 99 yards.
Austin Hancock caught three passes for 65 yards.
Mason Brown had 16 tackles, followed by Blake Christian with 10, Dalton Reid with nine Houston Word with eight and Pace Ozmint with seven.
Christian had three and a half sacks and four tackles for a loss. Brown had a pair of sacks.
