After experiencing a hiccup early in the Class 6A North Regional Tournament last week, the Southside High softball team regrouped to qualify for its second state tournament berth.

The Lady Panthers opened with a 6-4 loss to Muscle Shoals on Thursday, dropping them to the playback bracket. Southside responded with four straight wins on Friday, defeating Hartselle, 10-2; Athens, 6-1; Scottsboro, 8-4 before posting an 8-0 victory over Arab in the playback final.

Southside will face Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa on Wednesday (May 18) in the first round of the state tournament at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park.
