Lions not taking White Plains lightly

“Scary.” 

That’s how Gene Hill summed up White Plains.

“If they get it together this week, we’re in trouble,” the Sardis High coach said.

Hill noted that the Wildcats got it together last week for the first time and that scares him.

“On defense, (White Plains) puts eight in the box and dare you to run,” Hill said. “We’ve got to complete some passes to make them honest.”

This is a big game as far as Sardis’ playoff chances are concerned, as the Lions are tied for fourth place in the Class 4A, Region 6 standings with Hokes Bluff. 

“This is nearly a must-win game for us,” Hill said. “If we can win it and beat Cleburne County next week, we’ll be nearly where we need to be. One more win couldn’t hurt.”

After Cleburne County, the Lions round out region play against Cherokee County and Crossville.

Last week against Geraldine, Logan Gaskin completed 9 of 10 passes for 112 yards, while Austin Hallmark had five catches for 92 yards.

Jesse Hubbard rushed for 74 yards on 15 carries, while Keenan Lewis ran 10 times for 52 yards.
